The Community Park is a vital component of the Fountain Road redevelopment in Gqebera Township, supported by the NDP Grant. This park was developed on a disused bus turning area just south of the Advice Centre, transforming a neglected space into a safe, vibrant area for children and families. The site, which previously featured a tarmac surface and vandalized facilities, was repurposed due to its low traffic levels and proximity to residential areas, making it ideal for a community-oriented park.
Located between two quiet, narrow streets, the park benefits from natural traffic calming, ensuring a safer environment for children to play. Enhanced lighting was installed to extend playtime into the evening and improve security, while shaded benches, trees, and water features along the park’s edges provide inviting spaces for relaxation.
The park features grassed areas for children to play soccer, and paved sections are designed for future public art displays or entertainment events. A basketball facility adds another layer of recreational activity, making the park a multi-functional space that caters to a range of community needs.
